I am here to support expectant couples and new families. It is my passion to give emotional, practical and informative support to expectant parents & new families.
I aim to educate and inform you so that you can make the choices that are right for you and your family.
You may have heard of hypnobirthing, but don't know much about it. Perhaps you think it is a bit hippy-dippy or don't know how it can help you.
Let me assure you, I studied the exact hypnobirthing techniques which I now teach for my own births and I am so thankful to them for enabling me to have positive experiences with both of my children. Hypnobirthing is also based on the science of neurobiology - so if your birthing partner is sceptical, I often emphasise this side of it. It is a FULL antenatal birth preparation course and will teach you so. much more than hypnosis for birth.
Society is geared up to make us nervous about birth or to make it a topic which is not talked about. So perhaps you are feeling anxious about giving birth and want to try anything to change these feelings. Hypnobirthing allows us to embrace the process, cherish it and shout about it from the rooftops. Hypnobirthing will allow you to feel calm and informed of your choices. It will give you the confidence to make choices which are right for you and your baby and most of all it can even allow you to enjoy birth. I know I certainly enjoyed mine and I care that more birthing people and their partners get to experience a positive birth, no matter how that may look and no matter the outcome.
I offer private or group hypnobirthing classes in Aberdeen and online.
Having started supported people through antenatal education, I was often asked if I was a birth companion or if I would consider supporting clients in their births. In addition to this, often my clients would come back to me as they approached their "estimated due dates" to get further support and help to navigate the birthing system.
Having had time to reflect on my own birthing experience, I found it difficult to navigate the choices offered to me and how to ask questions to help me make the best decisions. I find that most people need an informed advocate at their birth to help with all of these things. Sometimes we need someone alongside to reassure us and be our "cheerleader". Perhaps you don't have a birth partner or your birth partner is feeling really anxious and needs someone to support them too - these are all things a birth doula can do!
It is an honour to be invited to be part of someone's birth team and each birth is so unique and individual.
The postnatal transition can be a tough one! You are finding yourself in this new role whilst simultaneously learning about your baby and how to look after them. As we learn to care for our new baby (on little or less sleep) we often put our own needs to the bottom of the list. A postnatal doula can be their to care for you while you learn. to care for your baby. There are so many new paths to navigate and it can be wonderful to have a knowledgable companion alongside who can guide you to good evidence based information and can support you in a number of ways.
Unfortunately, I suffered from anxiety & depression after the birth of my daughter in 2017. It was during this time that I realised I had not prepared for life with a baby, I had only prepared for birth. I felt overwhelmed by motherhood and didn't feel like I had thought of any possible obstacles to a calm and confident first year of parenthood. Mental health is a topic which is extremely important to me and if you feel like yours maybe changing through your perinatal journey, support can make a huge difference to this.
I am truly passionate about birthing people and their families feeling supported, heard and understood throughout their parenting journey.
When I sought support I found that postnatal support in Aberdeen was lacking. There was some support but it was very limited and often did not incorporate emotional support or support for mental health and wellbeing.
If you are pregnant and haven't thought about what to expect in those first few months, then this is the time to start.
Postnatal support can be in person, in your own home.
Or if you are looking for emotional and informational support it can also be done online.
