There have been studies which have looked into the efficacy of doula support. Studies show that women and birthing people who are supported by a doula are:

- more likely to have a vaginal birth

- less likely to need pain medication

- more likely to have a shorter labour

- more likely to feel positively about their perinatal experiences

What does a birth doula do?

A birth doula is an additional birth companion; we will compliment the team you already have in place. We will be "on-call" for your birth and will attend to support you through your birthing experience. This support might be emotional, practical or informational. A birth doula will also meet with you antenatally to help prepare for birth and postnatally to help you adjust to parenthood

How will I know if you are the right doula for me?

I offer a free 40 minute consultation where you can "get to know me". I recommend that if you are looking for a doula, that you contact a couple to find the right fit for you and your family.

What does your birth doula package include?

My price for a birth doula package is £1200. This includes 2 antenatal sessions to plan and prepare for birth, being on-call for birth, birth attendance and 2 postnatal sessions (1 almost immediately after birth and 1 as a birth de-brief at about 6 weeks postpartum).

What is your on-call period?

I will be "on-call" for you from 38 weeks until your baby is born.

What happens if I choose or have a caesarean birth?

Currently only one birth partner is allowed into theatre for a caesarean birth. So, if I was your second birth partner I would not be able to accompany you into theatre. However, I would be there to support before your caesarean and for immediate recovery afterwards. If your partner does not want to be in theatre I can be with you.

I have completed extensive training with a few doula training providers. I trained with Developing Doulas in 2024 to support births in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. After my training I then chose to take part in the mentoring process with Doula UK.
